The avian flu has been leaving a mark in parts of Europe and now some cases have been seen in Southern Ontario… Unfortunately, it is spreading quickly.
We are monitoring it and preparing for if it comes here.
You need to know that Avian Flu is often spread my migratory Birds and humans.
There are a few things you can do to keep your flock healthy. All these things are good practice even if the Avian Flu will never reach Northern Ontario, as it helps prevent the spread of other infectious diseases as well and may even help prevent mites or fleas on your birds.
1. Clean your coop regularly
2. Quarantine new birds
3. Avoid contact with other poultry groups at other farms
4. Keep wild birds away from your flock
In the mean time, keep an eye on regions in Canada that have infected zones.
